Matt and Jacob, started ODV as a
side hustle in 2019...

After co-founding an online toy store alongside his brother Jacob in their teenage years, Matt shifted gears into the dynamic realm of film. He entered a production house and contributed to some of the country's biggest TV commercials. Then in 2019, Matt co-launched ODV with Jacob and his dad Rodney as a side project initially but came on full-time after a few months. Between them, Jacob and Matt filmed and edited everything themselves while Rodney made the sales. These days, Matt heads up the production department, directs some of ODV's biggest commercials, and ensures that every video created carries that unmistakable ODV spark.

Jacob came to the world of film in a rather roundabout way. While studying Product Design he began a YouTube channel to document his journey. The goal of the channel was to promote his design work, but when he started a side hustle in 2019 (ODV), he knew that film was the actual craft he wanted to pursue. So, Jacob dropped out of design school and took the side hustle full-time with his brother Matt and father Rodney. Now, ODV is a respected production house that makes story-driven commercials for bold brands. Jacob heads up the pre-production department, ensuring every script leads to a distinctive and scroll-stopping video.

Rodney could be described as a serial entrepreneur – from launching a swimwear store in the 70’s called Blue Dude, to running a business consultancy where he coached over 500 senior leaders across NZ & AU, and now, leading a video production company with his sons Jacob & Matthew. As a co-founder of ODV and Head of Sales, Rodney (aka “Father Video”), is passionate about establishing a clear vision of purpose and organisational effectiveness for the growth of the business.

Esther may or may not have studied communications because it was the only degree that recognised a love of talking as a genuine career path. Her experience is a unique combination of marketing and public relations which gives her social strategy and brand building skills a powerful edge. Esther is responsible for ODV’s ubiquitous marketing and is taking the agency on an international journey to spread joy with the best damn videos the internet has ever seen.

After years of working in the visual space, Taylor has a thorough experience-based knowledge of the live action production process. As the Head of Post here at ODV, Taylor oversees every part of the post production process ensuring quality on delivery. Taylor is also a keen video director - having started his career in music videos he’s now a well-experienced commercial director. Outside of work, Taylor's a bit of a coffee snob, wave junkie and wannabe chef.

Simone is our resident gastronome who is steadily working her way through Auckland’s food scene. Always prepared with recommendations on hand, she’s also one-half of the ODV Sales Team. Taking charge of new leads and business development, you’re likely to hear from her if you pop through an enquiry, so get in touch for a chat!

Jaime's marketing background and keen eye over social trends are assets to the ODV online channels. Whether it's overhauling website copy, creating unhinged social content, or chipping away at ODV's marketing strategy, you can guarantee a bit of flare in Jaime's work. If she's not in the office, you can probably find her at a beach somewhere across the country!

After spending the last few years coordinating tertiary programmes and advising students, Tessa made the move to ODV to join our fantastic production team. Part-time vegan recipe creator, foodie and dancing queen, Tess loves overseeing the video production journey and especially ensuring that everyone remains happy and calm in the process! With a love for people and processes, Tess is here to use her organisational skills and chipper attitude to pull together all the moving parts required to make a killer video.

The French pocket Rocket of the ODV prod department. Lucas moved from Paris to Wellington in 2016 and has been smoking darts and breaking hearts all over Aotearoa ever since (JK he quit smoking). After years freelancing in video production as an Assistant Director and Assistant Producer on music videos, documentaries and short films, Lucas leaped to the video commercial world by joining the ODV dream team. He applies the same dedication whether he is scheduling shoots, booking crew, or stepping in on-set to push a doorway dolly. Outside of work, Lucas is proficient in cat scratchies, dance floor slaying and general fabulousness.
